PRESS RELEASE: First images from WWII drama THE MAN IN THE BOX starring The Hobbit's John Bell, Thomas Kretschmann and Martina Gedeck.
This coming of age tale set in the Tyrol in 1944 gears up for its spring shoot following the shoot last December, with world sales handled by London-based sales agent Parkland. Parkland will screen a selection of scenes at the EFM in Berlin from next week. Award-winning director Arsen Ostojic takes on his first English language feature, THE MAN IN THE BOX, adapted from Thomas Moran’s bestselling novel. August 1944, in a small village in the Austrian Tyrol: A teenage boy’s family takes into hiding a Jewish doctor who saved the boy's life before the war. Niki, now 15 and a member of Hitler Youth, is initially appalled by the idea. However, as he's forced to tend to the daily needs of the hidden fugitive, a relationship develops despite the ever present danger of discovery and exposure. Steve Walsh says: ‘Our winter shoot was brilliant. We had a wonderful crew, fantastic locations, a first-class director and a cast headed by up and coming British teenager, John Bell, along with hugely experienced stars like Thomas Kretschmann and Martina Gedeck. We even had enough snow even if it melted the day we left!’ Walsh is producing the film alongside Parkland's John Cairns and in association with GripFilm, Croatia. The film is being back by the Croatian Audiovisual Center, Cine Tirol, FISA and will benefit from the Italian Tax Credit System.
